Crazy Rich Asians #3: Rich People Problem by Kevin Kwan

Goodreads Summary: Kevin Kwan, bestselling author of Crazy Rich Asians and China Rich Girlfriend, is back with an uproarious new novel of a family riven by fortune, an ex-wife driven psychotic with jealousy, a battle royal fought through couture gown sabotage, and the heir to one of Asia's greatest fortunes locked out of his inheritance.

When Nicholas Young hears that his grandmother, Su Yi, is on her deathbed, he rushes to be by her bedside--but he's not alone. It seems the entire Shang-Young clan has convened from all corners of the globe, ostensibly to care for their matriarch but truly to stake claim on the massive fortune that Su Yi controls. With each family member secretly fantasizing about getting the keys to Tyersall Park--a trophy estate on 64 prime acres in the heart of Singapore--the place becomes a hotbed of intrigue and Nicholas finds himself blocked from entering the premises. As relatives claw over heirlooms, Astrid Leong is at the center of her own storm, desperately in love with her old sweetheart Charlie Wu, but tormented by his ex-wife--a woman hell bent on destroying Astrid's reputation and relationship. Meanwhile Kitty Pong, married to billionaire Jack Bing, finds a formidable opponent in his fashionista daughter, Colette. A sweeping novel that takes us from the elegantly appointed mansions of Manila to the secluded private islands in the Sulu Sea, from a schoolyard kidnapping to a gold-leaf dancefloor spattered with blood, Kevin Kwan's gloriously wicked new novel reveals the long-buried secrets and rich people problems of Asia's most privileged families.

-MY THOUGHTS-

THANK YOU NETGALLEY FOR PROVIDING ME WITH AN ARC!

Now that I think about it, I realize that it's a bit weird that I've never talked about one of my favourite series. Written by Kevin Kwan, Crazy Rich Asians depicts the crazy adventures of the extravagant Chinese elite. Admittedly, the set of three books is not for everybody. Think of it as a mashup between Gossip Girl and 90210 where the cast is in their early 30s and instead of hanging out in Barney's or Nordstrom, do their shopping between China's fanciest shops and every major fashion city.

In the first book, Nick brought along his girlfriend Rachel to his best friend's wedding in Singapore, exposing her to his world made up of ridiculously wealthy relatives, friends and acquaintances without any preparation. In fact, prior to the trip Rachel knew little about her boyfriend's family and assumed that his silence on his background hinted at a poverty-ridden home that he wanted to hide.

-MY THOUGHTS-

Sooooooooooooo, in case you were wondering, yes, I'M STILL ALIVE! This is my first real post in a bit more than a year. What kept me away? If I wanted to sound serious and level-headed I would say that my absence was caused by yet another tumultuous but satisfying uni year. If I were honest, I would admit that I have been laaaaaaaaaaa-aaaaaa-zy *gather breath*. But who cares? I’m back! And I think it is only fitting that I review lastest release inthe Kate Daniels series which by now you should know is one of my favourite series ever as my homecoming post.

In this one, the situation is bad, hell what am I saying it is DIRE. Kate’s main goal in life has always been to defeat her evil father Roland. Problem is, she can’t because she's simply not powerful enough AND she knows it. Thanks to a few seers, she also knows that it is not only her life that is in danger but the one of her loved one. BUUUUUT our Kate is a fighter, despite these foreboding vision, she has no intention to flee or even give up. The book resolve around her trying to find a way to turn a bleak future into a hopeful one.

A Broken-Hearted Fan

*In my best Skylar Grey voice*…I need a doctor…I need a doctor…. Guys, there’s a hole in my heart I can’t patch. Yes, I can eat, drink and sleep. There’s no way I can deprieve myself of these things. But that doesn't mean I don't feel the pain! It’s like I’ve been backstabbed by my bestfriend, it’s like someone that wasn’t me ate the last fried chicken in the box, it’s like I gave my seat to a pregnant woman and I have to keep standing in a journey that will take hours.

I used to mock football fans who acted as if the world had ended when their favorite team had lost, but then, on Friday last week some Italian journeywoman ejected Serena Williams from the US Open, a round away from the final. That’s when I realized I had been fooling myself all my life, I’m as much a stan as they are !

Working Out? Yes Duh!

Picture by Abdullah Nasser under CC BY 2.0

I stopped playing tennis a sport which I love when I stated uni. In the past months, my sister kept on telling me to start working out again. My sister is one of these people who give great piece of advices even thought they rarely follow them themselves. Proof in case, she is allergic to any kind of physical activities although she preaches their benefits to whoever is listening.

Good god, I hadn’t realized how much I had missed Ilona Andrews’ writing until I read Magic Shifts, the eight book in the Kate Daniels series. Those two are wordsmiths of the highest order.

For whatever reason, even though I was excited by Magic Shifts release as I always am by any Kate Daniels books, I didn’t care about reading it right now. As you might have guessed, I gave in eventually. My feelings when I opened the book were “just read it Sarah, whatever.”
